A Starter’s Guide to Making Juice

 

Are you ready to start juicing? If so, the first things to purchase are a blender and a juice extractor. The blender is good for making thicker liquids, or smoothies, particularly from leafy vegetables, seeds, and nuts. The smoothies made by the blender should be drunk quickly after preparation. The juice extractor is more appropriate for babies or people who cannot accept the taste of the thicker smoothies. Additionally, juices can be kept in bottles for 1-2 hours.

If you are unsure about which vegetables and fruits to start making juice with, do not worry, as there is only one relatively simple rule to follow: all vegetables, except for those which are poisonous to eat uncooked, can be used to make juice or smoothies.

Carrots and cucumber contain Vitamin-C-oxidizing enzymes, so it is recommended not to mix them with other vegetables or fruits to avoid the loss of Vitamin C. If this is not a problem for you, and you really want to mix them with others, that is also fine.

At first, you can start by mixing one or two of the following vegetables: celery, lettuce, tomato, cabbage, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, potato, eggplant, fennel, asparagus, or bell peppers, and so on.

Then, add one or two types of the following fruit: apple, pineapple, banana, orange, tangerine, pear, kiwi, grape, watermelon, strawberry, blueberry, cherry, cantaloupe, papaya, dragon fruit, etc.

You may have thought of many other vegetables and fruits, but it is important to keep the following rule in mind: only mix between 2 and 4 different types of vegetables and fruits, and vary the types every day, since different plants contribute different nutrients. When you go buy produce, try to choose different types every time, and after a period, you will get into the rhythm, and create your own easy juice routine!

Additionally, if you do not like to drink cold juice, here are three ways to deal with it:

1 - Mix warm water below 50C with vegetables and fruits when you juice or blend.

2 - Put the vegetables and fruits in warm water below 60C before preparing the juice.

3 - Drink juice or smoothies in small sips.
